Introduction of BAEC
Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) a scientific research organization is committed to ensure peaceful utilization of atomic energy through acquisition, development and application of scientific and technological knowledge by under taking (R&D) activities in various fields of science. The programmers of BAEC are materialized through different institutes, centers units and divisions. A training institute was established to train the scientists, engineers and other technical people of BAEC and other organization and institutions.
Identification of training needs
· Mainly training need analysis is conducted by the Directors of research institutes, centers and units and heads of different division of BAEC on the basis of job analysis and services provided by BAEC to other country.
· Observation, on the job performance, recommendations, and analysis of job requirements are conducted in BAEC by the senior scientists, engineers, section heads, divisional heads and directors.
· Interviews and examination are taken to assess the need of training for the fresh recruiters.
· Nationwide surveys are conducted to analyze the need of training for the technical people working outside BAEC.
· Sometimes latest technological changes are considered for the training need determination.
Methods of training followed in BAEC
BAEC arrange different sorts of training programs to train young scientists and engineers to grab the latest technological development in the field of nuclear technology. BAEC offer both on the job training and off the job at both theoretical and practical training opportunities through a range of local, regional and international training programs that include both internal and external levels on the basis of training need assessment.
Method of training
v On-the job training:
This training given to the newly recruited employees and existing employees on the actual job situation
(1) Job Instruction training:
Basically this technique applied to the newly recruited scientists and engineers about their assigned research and development work.
Were they are trained up on:
¨ Theoretical concept
Ø Give through lectures
¨ Experimental setting
Ø By practical demonstration
¨ Equipment handling and measurement
Ø Also by practical demonstration
The program is conducted by senior scientist sometimes by senior technicians.
(2) Job transfer:
Sometimes employees are transferred in the different research institute, projects and internal divisions to gather experience and knowledge
v Off the job training:
The training method includes:
1. Basic Nuclear orientation course
2. Advanced level nuclear training course
3. Overseas training program
4. Seminars, workshop.
5. Practical laboratory training and practices
6. Committee
Ø Panels of resource person and management committee are formed.
7. Conferences on local and international basis
8. Scientific visit
9. Computer training.
Training feedback
v Evaluation of training is done through taking written examination, viba voce test and practical examinations. Examiners formed by the higher authority selected from the senior scientists, engineers, divisional heads and directors of different divisions and institutes.
v Successful trainees are evaluated by their acquired knowledge or learning through the training experience, changes in their behavior that result from the training and qualitative change of the trainees are recorded in their ACR for future promotions and reward. The training is rewarded by giving special increments in their monthly salary. They are also awarded international standard certificate of training that is acceptable to any country of the world.
